Example

Try Google's public DNS server, 8.8.8.8, then Cloudflare's, 1.1.1.1. Both are anycast addresses: the same address is announced from many datacentres at once, so the city you get back is whichever location the geolocation database ties to that address, and someone running the same lookup from another country may well see a different one. The AS number is the stable part of the answer — it names the company that announces the address, whichever node you reach.

Understanding your results

IP address and IP version

The address the rest of the result belongs to, echoed back so there is no doubt which one was looked up, and whether it is a 32-bit IPv4 address or a 128-bit IPv6 one. On a blank search this is your own public address, which is what the page shows when it loads.

Country / Region / City

The geographic location where the IP address is registered — not necessarily the exact location of the person using it. Mobile networks and VPNs commonly show a different location than the actual user.

Postal code

The postal or ZIP code held for that area. It comes out of the same city-level record, so it is right about as often as the city is — and it is empty more often, because plenty of address ranges carry no postal code at all.

Coordinates

Latitude and longitude, printed to four decimal places. Four places looks like street-level precision and is not: the figures are the centre of a city or of an ISP's service area, so read them as a label for a region rather than a point on a road. They are also what the marker on the map uses.

ISP (Internet Service Provider)

The company providing internet access for this IP address — typically a residential or mobile carrier, or a hosting provider for server IPs.

Organization

The entity that owns or controls the block of IP addresses. This is often the ISP, but it can also be a separate company or institution.

AS number

The Autonomous System that announces this address — a group of IP networks under one administrative authority, defined in RFC 1930. The row prints this field exactly as the lookup returns it, so it may be the number on its own or the number followed by the operator's name. It is the steadiest part of a result: an address can move city in the database without its AS changing.

Timezone

The local timezone tied to this address, given as an IANA zone name such as Asia/Dhaka rather than an offset — useful for understanding when traffic from that IP is typically active. It is derived from the country and region, so it inherits their accuracy.

Privacy info tab

A quick heuristic, not a threat-intelligence lookup. It scans the ISP, organization, and AS name for hosting and datacenter keywords, because commercial VPNs almost always run on rented server infrastructure. It does not query the Tor exit list or any open-proxy scanner, so treat it as a hint and confirm anything important with the VPN Checker or Proxy Check.

Not available

Any row can read Not available. That is the tool being straight with you rather than breaking: the lookup came back without that field. It happens most often with the postal code and the coordinates, and it is normal for reserved ranges, carrier-grade NAT addresses and some IPv6 blocks.

Important accuracy notes

• Geolocation accuracy varies: Country-level data is usually reliable, but city-level data can be off by hundreds of miles.

• Mobile IPs are less precise: Mobile devices often show the location of a cell tower or carrier hub, not the user.

• VPNs and proxies mask real locations: These services intentionally hide the user's actual location. Use our VPN Checker to confirm whether an IP belongs to a known VPN provider.

• Corporate networks may show headquarters: Large organizations often route all traffic through a central location.
